His works are performed worldwide, e.g. at the guitar festival of Prague and the mandolin festival of Kobe, Japan

In 1957 he began his studies in composition at the Hochschule für Musik FRANZ LISZT Weimar, where he was educated among others by Walter Draeger, John Cilenšek, and piano by Ingeborg Herkomer. In 1963 he successfully completed his studies. Since 1963 he lived and worked in Magdeburg as a teacher of piano, composition, improvisation and accompaniment at the Conservatory Georg Philipp Telemann. Since 1992, he was there also Head of Youth and composition class until he retired in 2002. In May 2004, Dieter Nathow died in Magdeburg. His works are held in a melodic and moderate modern style. Dieter Nathow wrote numerous piano concertos, concertos, operas, choral works and orchestral works, chamber music and symphonies.

1972 erhielt er einen Lehrauftrag für Blockflöte an der Hochschule für Musik\semikolon 1973 machte er sein Cembalo-Diplom\semikolon 1974 schloss er mit dem 1. Staatsexamen sein Schulmusik-Studium ab. 1975 wurde Martin Nitz Professor und hauptamtlicher Dozent für Blockflöte an der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Hamburg. Seit 1980 ist er Herausgeber für Blockflötenmusik des Früh- und Hochbarock.
