Thomas Hamori

Born in Györ (Hungary), Thomas Hamori has lived in Switzerland since 1948. He studied piano, cello, music theory and composition. His educational work as a music teacher, pianist, choir director and composer was in line with his versatility as a musician.
Thomas Hamori was the leader of numerous advanced training courses on the subject of piano didactics, improvisation, ensemble playing, South American rhythms, jazz, etc. and guest lecturer at the Technical University of Budapest (music history of the 20th century).
On behalf of the Association of Zurich Music Schools, he was a training manager for theoretical subjects for twelve years. Lectures at congresses such as the European Piano Teachers Association (EFTA) and the Verband Musikschulen Schweiz (VMS) rounded off his work as a speaker. His multi-volume piano method and his course for improvisation (36 improvisation models) as well as other music-educational publications show him as a gifted teacher.
Thomas Hamori was a prizewinner in several composition competitions and received, for example, the AGEC composition prize in 2002 in recognition of his composition “Vier skurile Lieder” (Four skurile songs) based on poems by Christian Morgenstern.
Since 1993 he has also worked as a painter and exhibited regularly.
Thomas Hamori died in Adlikon on February 5, 2022.
