Manuela Frescura

Manuela Frescura, born in 1958, studied mandolin at the Zurich University of the Arts ZHdK. She completed a year of further training for professional musicians at the Werkstatt für Improvisation (WIM) in Zurich and attended various international chamber music and master classes. In addition to her many years of teaching at the Baar
Music School, she performs in various permanent and
project-related formations and uses her voice in addition to the mandolin, mandola, singing saw, kotamo,
tammorra and various rhythm instruments. The close and continuous collaboration in various ensembles
as well as travels to distant countries inspired her to adapt traditional folk music and create her own
compositions. She was most strongly influenced by the
women’s band Tarallucce (music from the editerranean
region), with whom she has cultivated an active
concert life for 20 years and has produced five CDs.
