Jan Truhlár

Jan Truhlár, born on July 6, 1928 in Prague, studied composition at the Prague Conservatory with Franticek Picha, guitar with Štepán Urban and at the Prague Academy of Music Arts with Pavel Borkovec. In 1963 he won the first prize for his quartet for flute, violin, violoncello and guitar, and in 1964 the second prize for his concert for guitar and orchestra at the Concours International de Guitare, organized by the Paris ORTF (Office de Radiodiffusion Télévision Française). After the occupation of Czechoslovakia by the Soviet Union in 1968, he was considered a “not recommended” composer. After emigrating, he lived in Linz (Austria). Jan Truhlár died on February 8, 2007 at the age of 79.
