Claudio Gabriele, composer, pianist, organist, conductor,
studied in Italy, Santa Cecilia Conservatory,
Accademia Nazionale S. Cecilia (Rome), in France,
I.R.C.A.M. (Paris), Conservatoire de Strasbourg, and
the United States, New York University. He studied
Choral Music and Gregorian Chant at the “Pontifical
Institute of Sacred Music” (Vatican). After studying composition with Alessandro Cusatelli and Vieri Tosatti, he completed his training with the great composers of today: Ivan Fedele, Georges Aperghis, Brian Ferneyhough, Jacques Rebotier, Magnus Lindberg, Klaus Huber, Toshio Hosokawa, Jonathan Harvey. He has also studied Electroacoustic Music with Giorgio Nottoli, Michelangelo Lupone (CRM-Rome), Leonello Tarabella (University of Pisa), Robert Rowe (New York University), Curtis Roads (MIT-Boston), Daniel Teruggi (GRM-Paris). He composes music for chamber ensemble, orchestra, musical theatre, even with the use of electro-acoustic means. In his scores Claudio Gabriele gives great importance to the transmission of emotional and primordial
sound material: musical notation makes use of
traditional notation and unconventional ideas, such as
psychographic signs, pictorial ideograms, sound-painting conducting. The musical style of Claudio Gabriele is infused with elements of theatre, often making use of modern technology such as video and quadraphonic spatialisation. In his conception of musical aesthetics, Claudio Gabriele alternates situations of pure humour to atmospheres of dreams and meditation, almost an evocation of parallel worlds, but always with a deep sense of reflection on today’s life. – Claudio Gabriele won different prices.
