“Woher” (‘From where’) for two mandolins
A dialogic structure arises less by the way in which the two instruments are treated than by the same formal arrangement four-time.
Description
Inspired and starting from Klabund’s (his real name was Alfred Georg Hermann Henschke, 1890–1928) “Woher” (From where? From the sea. / Where? To the meaning. / What for? To rest. / Why? I’m silent.) my eponymous composition also consists of four parts. Each of them goes through three phases: one of (burning) questioning, one of (hesitating) reflection, and one of (lost in reverie) answering. A dialogic structure arises less by the way in which the two instruments are treated than by the same formal arrangement four-time.
